Introduction
I was raised in Southern Utah when Hurricane City was small and only had a couple of streetlights! The only thing to alleviate boredom (besides common small-town-mischief) was to swim in the Virgin River or play sandlot style baseball in the vacant lot next door.
Chores were a part of growing up, and I was taught the value of hard work from an early age. The first baseball glove I ever owned was one that I earned myself by pulling weeds outside the local Ace Hardware store over the course of several weekends in the hot summer sun.
After high school graduation and a church service mission to Germany, I worked hauling lumber in a commercial truck and worked for an electrician. I had several minor workers’ compensation injuries and claims of my own. Those experiences, and the relationships I formed with co-workers in traditional “blue collar” jobs, helped me to develop an interest in workers’ compensation law after law school graduation in 2012.
Legal Practice Style
The values of hard work and a keen sense of responsibility have shaped my work ethic as an attorney. I find great satisfaction in helping hard-working people who are trying to not be steam-rolled by powerful insurance companies. Workers’ compensation can be deceptively complex, and I firmly believe that clients hire attorneys to hear a direct, no-nonsense assessment of their claim, and a strong and direct representation consistent with that assessment.
Education and Professional Background
I graduated cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, in May 2012. Since that time, I’ve practiced workers’ compensation law in Utah. I’ve been recognized by publications such as Super Lawyers and Utah Business Magazine for my work and reputation in workers’ compensation. In addition to my legal practice, I perform volunteer work on a Utah Bar Committee, have served on workgroups with the Utah Labor Commission, have been the Workers’ Compensation Section Chair for the Utah Association for Justice, and am a board member for the Washington County RAP Tax in St. George.
Hobbies and Interests
Aside from work, I like getting out and enjoying Utah’s backcountry with my wife and children. It might be kayaking at a local reservoir, riding my motorcycle through Zion National Park, or getting out of the heat at my family’s property in the mountains of Southern Utah. In addition to those activities, baseball has always been my favorite sport, followed by football. If I can get away to Phoenix to catch a Diamondbacks or Cardinals game, it’s a great weekend.
